Colourful Panto Stars Make It All the Better To Entertain You

Red Riding Hood, Shotley Drama Group, Village Hall, Wednesday February 19 – Saturday 22.

Colourful, comedic and, well yes, corny, but all the better to make you laugh, groan and clap like mad.

Shotley Drama Group pull it off year after year and talented director Mandy Peters has done it again with their own version of the classic fairy-tale Red Riding Hood.

There is something for everyone, with plenty of wallop, wooden gags and wail out loud singalongs. Even the signs in the background will make you smile, including the ITFC heading in a downward direction.

Josie Tromans as Red Riding Hood and Michelle Merrin as Robin Hood, provide the love interest, and Robin's band of merry men add a cheeky, chirpy element.

Simple Simon, playing the fool by the gregarious Connor Sams, provides a few asides to keep the laughs going, while his 'mum' Old Mother Hubbard performed with gusto by the perfect panto dame Aaron Gleed.

Of course, no panto worth its salt needs a baddy or two and in Michael Connell as the hungry but lovable big bad wolf, and Ellen Bateman as the Wicked Witch, this has two, who add a pinch of darkness and a loathing of the goodness provided by Fairy Queen (Mel Connell), Tinkle, played by the mischievous Angela Arnold, and Belle (Lynne Catling).

Showing you are never too old, is the evergreen Bob Oliver as both Grandma and the Town crier, while the not so Tough and Ruthless hapless plods are carried off by Naomi Mitchell and Jude Moxon-Turner.

Backing the adults is a cast of committed children who make the song and dance numbers come alive, which will leave you Walking on Sunshine and never alone.

Something which sets this drama group's productions apart from the norm, are the superb sets, costumes, choreography, lighting and sound, and this does not disappoint. The attention to detail and quality is incredible, making the whole thing even more fun. It will even help make you join in and play your own part in foiling the baddies and ensuring a happy ending.

Book your tickets today by contacting Mandy on 07801 591102 or Michelle 07854 002465, or pop into the Rose pub and buy from there, and it will be £7.50 adults, £6.50 concessions, and £24 family ticket. If you buy at the door it will be Adults £8.50, £7.50 concessions, £28 family ticket.

The panto starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the matinee on Saturday starting at 2.30pm and doors open 30 minutes before curtain up.
