Villagers in Chelmondiston are today voting in a referendum on whether to ask Babergh to formally recognise its Neighbourhood Plan.

Parishioners are formally being asked to vote yes or no, on the question: "Do you want Babergh District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Chelmondiston to help it decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood Plan area?"

Parishioners can cast their vote at Chelmondiston Village Hall, Main Road, until 10pm tonight.

Formulated by members of a committee steered mainly by former councillor John Deacon, villagers were asked to give their thoughts on the development of a Neighbourhood Plan to help Babergh planners make decisions on new houses and other infrastructure issues in Chelmondiston.

Other villages including Stutton and Holbrook are in various stages of their own Neighbourhood Plans.
