Villagers in Chelmondiston have voted in favour of asking Babergh to adopts its Neighbourhood Plan by an overwhelming majority.

Out of an electorate of 848, 241 ballot papers were issues with 230 people voting in favour, and 11 against.

The turnout for Thursday's vote at Chelmondiston Village hall was 28.4%, with 95.44 voting for the proposal.

The process, which began in 2018, will now see Babergh formally adopting the Chelmondiston NP and will sit alongside Babergh's other planning policies and the National Planning Policy Framework.

Once fully adopted Chelmondiston's share of any future Community Infrastructure Levy payments made by developers in the parish will increase from 15% to 25%.
