A bid to change the conditions of a housing development in Chelmondiston has been backed by the parish council.

The new owners of site at Spalding Way near Millfield and Woodlands in the village, which has already been granted planning permission to build 24 new houses, including eight affordable homes, want to add a second floor to utilise roof space at plots 11 and 13.

Chelmondiston parish clerk Jill Davis wrote to Babergh district planning officers to confirm the parish council did not object to the changes but added: "The new height of the roof for the third bedroom maximum height is 8908 (sic) and should not be taken any higher."

Two people have objected with concerns over the two plots becoming three storeys will make them too dominant, due to the height, out of keeping with the rest of the development and would spoil views from the river Orwell,  detracting from Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The application was made by new owners, Warrington-based company, SPV- Salboy BP SPV 28 Limited.

The site, which will be named after the Spalding family who originally owned the land, along with much of the area that Woodlands and the primary school now stand.

Planning permission was granted in 2018 and a large amount of archaeological was carried out before groundwork started in earnest.
