Anglian Water has said sorry after villagers in Chelmondiston, Shotley, Woolverstone and Holbrook along with other pockets on the Shotley peninsula suffered discoloured water pouring from taps in their homes.

Residents have noticed orange, brown or yellow water coming out of their taps, due to iron sediments in the water main.

The water company said it was taking action to solve the issue by carrying out localised flushing along the main pipe.

"We are sorry," An Anglian Water statement said: "Iron in the water is harmless and usually short-lived but we are carrying out localised flushing to remove the discolouration."

The work is expected to be completed tomorrow (Monday, 19 June)

Meanwhile, residents are asked to check the Anglian Water website for more information on discoloured water here...
