All pubs on the peninsula have closed until further notice.

Some will offer a takeaway only service, with special arrangements made for pick up when necessary.

The closures came last night after prime minister Boris Johnson announced a series of measure, including shutting down bars and restaurant, as part of the battle to stop of the spread of the coronavirus.

During his daily press conference last night Johnson said: "We are telling – telling – cafes, pubs, bars and restaurants to close tonight, as soon as they reasonably can, and not open tomorrow". They would be allowed to sell takeaway food and drink, he added.

The same instruction was being given to nightclubs, theatres, cinemas, gyms and leisure centres, Johnson added. The new social distancing measures would be reviewed every month to see if any could be relaxed.

The White Horse at Tattingstone has posted their takeaway menu on our new Local Listings page, and all businesses and community groups on the peninsula, are welcome to follow suit, free of charge, as part of our 'Helping Peninsula Businesses' campaign.

The Shotley Rose, Butt & Oyster and Brantham Bull are all offering a takeaway service. Let us know if your local is too.

The Lasan Indian and fish and chip shop in Shotley, Laws Cottage' Chinese takeaway in Chelmondiston are opening as usual.

Some pubs had already closed ahead of Boris Johnson's announcement with the Red Lion at Chelmondiston and the Holbrook Swan amongst them.
