Pip Boyland; post match words following Saturday's game with Sheringham proved prophetic as his Brantham side ran out 2-1 winners at home against Long Melford last night.

Even though the Imps went down to 10 men again, first half goals from Louie Bloom and Luke Hipkin got Brantham off to a flying start, as they beat former Imps keeper Matt Walker in the Melford goal.

However, they suffered a set back before the break when Charlie Howlett was shown a start red, on the advice of a referee's assistant following robust midfield tackle.

Substitute Hassan Ally pulled a goal back late on for Melford to set up a nervy finish, with five minutes of time added on, but Brantham held out for their first three points of the season.

Boyland had told Nub News on Saturday he had every faith in his players to turn things round, just as the team had done last season, and this was a good start.
