All ferry journeys from Shotley to harwich and Felixstowe have been cancelled today.

The harbour ferry has been hit by mechanical issues and is expected to be out of action until Wednesday, August 4.

Ferry owner Chritian Zemann said: "We are working as fast as we can to fix the issue.

"Normal services expecting to resume Wednesday 4th August when we look forward to welcoming you on board."

The ferry operator has been beleaguered with problems over the past year with the endemic causing huge disruptions. Passenger numbers were reduced to 12 when it was allowed to operate.

Bad weather last September caused the ferry to break free from its mooring at Harwich's Halfpenny pier and it became submerged with sea water causing extensive damage to the engine and forcing an early end to its operating season.
