A peninsula pub is offer free slices of pizza to NHS workers tonight and tomorrow.

The Shotley Rose, already offers a takeaway service with a variety of meals, and pizza are a popular take out, and they wanted to show their appreciation to the wonderful range of frontline staff and support workers.

Sarah Pallant and Jamie Barwick have been cooking and serving a range of meals for locals, who can collect from a special table by the back gate.

Now they are telling any NHS staff passing the pub to pub into the back garden and grab a slice of pizza.

"We wanted to say thanks to our NHS workers in our own little way," said Sarah. "They have always been doing an amazing job but what is happening now brings it even more into focus."

The couple have tried to carry on as normal serving their locals, including continuing providing lunches for the Over 60s club which usually meet at the pub on Friday lunch-times.

Despite being on a furlough Mark Thurlow, has swapped his bar duties to volunteer as a delivery driver, along with members of the Shotley &

Erwarton Good Neighbours scheme, to ensure the elderly customers get their meals, between 12noon and 2pm.
