A wartime pre-fab on the main road between Shotley and Chelmondiston will be demolished and replaced with four new homes, if planning proposals are approved.
Babergh has received an application by Pinewood Land and Development for outline planning permission to demolish the current pre-fabricated building and associated ancillary buildings, build the four houses, create a new vehicular access off the B1456, put in 12 car parking spaces and make improvements to landscaping.
According to Suffolk Heritage Explorer, the site between Peartree Farm and Boot Drift, was used as a pill box and ancillary military buildings during World War II. the main residential building is on poor repair, while other buildings nearby are in complete disrepair. It was until very recently used as a house for a family.
In a statement to planners, the developer said: "The proposals for 4 residential units represent a density in keeping of low density, countryside development and improve the access considerably over its existing condition, representing a safety improvement to all road users.
"The replacement of an sub-standard dwelling with a small number of family units, on a brownfield site, in a sustainable location close to the range of services offered by Shotley and Chelmondiston is a scheme which offers a wide range of benefits."
As this is an outline application, no details of the size of houses or number of bedrooms have been finalised.
Comments can be made regarding the application by going to the Babergh planning website here... quoting reference: DC/21/02350 by June 2, 2021.
