Peninsula wild camping bosses ready for flocks of visitors after green light for new shepherd huts
Farming entrepreneurs Claire and Sam Wrinch are ready for even more visiting to start flocking to their wild camping site after getting planning permission to install four new shepherd huts.
The Harkstead couple opened their camp site last month, and have already earned rave reviews for their beautiful location, basic facilities and warm welcome for their six pitches, divided by Christmas trees and natural clearances.
They are now able to offer more accommodation after Babergh approved their planning application to change of use of agricultural land for the siting of up to four shepherd huts, and the area for six 'wild' tent pitches and erection of shower/toilet facilities on land at Nether Hall Farm. in Harkstead.
Sam said the couple were delighted with the decision and were looking forward to welcoming even more visitors to the sustainable and diverse site, close to Harkstead beach, county walks along public paths and easy access to the Bakers Arms.
Harkstead parish council had six it supported the scheme in principle but were concerned over sewage from the toilets, which is dealt with on site and precludes any danger of spillage into the river.
Parish councillors also aired concerns over road signs, but wrongly cited planning authority Babergh as responsible, when the highways issues are down to Suffolk County Council, which had no objections.
