Emergency crews respond after man's body found in Orwell

Police are appealing for witnesses or information after the body of a man was found in the River Orwell on the Shotley Peninsula.

The death is unexplained so far, and police confirmed the person's body was spotted in the river by the Orwell Bridge by a crew member on a boat.

A spokesperson said: "Police, firefighters, paramedics and HM Coastguard were in attendance, with HM Coastguard recovering the body of a man from the river.

"The death is being treated as unexplained at this time, enquiries are continuing."

Dozens of emergency service personnel flocked to the Strand to attend the serious incident after the alarm was raised just after1.00pm today.

Holbrook Coastguard, Suffolk Fire and Rescue, paramedics and at least one doctor, fire crews and two ambulance response units were at the scene.

A fireman directed traffic past the congregation of emergency vehicles at flyby on the B1456 to keep the road clear and motorists moving.
