A mobile takeaway van gave away 90 pizzas to NHS staff and keyworkers in a single shift.

Dolly's Pizzas handed out the pre-ordered free pizzas from their van at Freston lay-by after customers contributed towards their donations.

The generous gesture went down well with grateful essential workers lapping up the tasty array of pizza choices, while passers-by beeped their horns and waved their approval.

Fiona Ewart, owner of Dolly's Pizzas, had help from son Kieran to get through the orders on a busy day.

She said: "We made 101 pizzas, I know as I opened a new box of 100 and then had to get one extra for last pizza.

"We got lots of lovely comments from workers who really appreciated what our we, and customer, had done.

"We donated 90 to key-workers and the others eaten by us and delivery staff, who I'm really grateful to for helping out."

Delivery drivers included; Rob Shaw and Chris Butler, with lots of help from Andrew Saunders, Kevin Hack and Sean Tinker.

They dropped off at numerous places, including various peninsula care homes, shop workers, police and fire stations, wholesalers and Ipswich Hospital.

Meanwhile, dozens of NHS and other key workers turned up to collect, including peninsula nurses, off duty paramedics, an ambulance crew, petrol garage worker, medical centre staff, Tiffers Bus Shelter, and care home workers.

Customers, who have been adding extra when they have paid for their own orders, or bought an extra pizza, raised £300 and Dolly's pizzas matched them to be able to hand out 120 free pizzas.

Others have been, and will continue to be gifted at their regular stops, including tomorrow night in Stutton, and Wednesdays in Holbrook.

Fiona and her daughter Freya made sure no-one missed out and added: "We had a lady turn up and while chatting realised she was a Key worker, part of NHS mental health service, so we quickly made her an extra garlic bread with her order.

Dolly's Pizzas will be at Stutton Community car park on Friday between 4pm and 7pm. Call ahead with your order 078560 70123.

"We are still donating what we can each shift," added Fiona.

"If donations increase again we will try and hit a few more places with pizzas, as well as providing for individuals that turn up at the van."
