Police have today confirmed that the body of a man in his 40s has been recovered from the River Orwell, near the Strand.

Holbrook Coastguard, police, fire and ambulances, were called to the B1456 early on Sunday afternoon after traffic on the A14 was halted on the Orwell Bridge.

A subsequent search discovered the man's body within an hour but police needed to identify the person and inform relatives.

A police spokesman said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious. Next of kin have been made aware and a file will be prepared for the coroner in due course."
