Thought for the day

Bible reading-John 14 v 1 – 14

Things are not as they should be this year and not just because of the pandemic.

If you had thought that Monday 4th of May would be the May Day bank holiday for 2020, well think again, as it is set to be on Friday 8th May. It was set for Friday in order to link to the 75th Anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day.

Now all the plans for events and services to mark the occasion have had to be shelved or changed.

Many politicians across the world have made reference to the pandemic in terms of a war, or a battle, against an invisible enemy. For many of us the dark days of World War II are something we only know about from history books and we probably never thought we would experience something similar in terms of restrictions, curfews and lockdowns but here we are.

In terms of the Church year we are still in the season of Easter, a time of joy and of celebration and yet our churches are closed and locked. Whether you attend church services or not our churches and churchyards are places where people do find peace, quiet and time to reflect on our lives and things that trouble us, so it may cause us issues that we can't enter the church building but must

remain at home.

But God is with us always whether in church, in our homes or wherever we are in going about our daily lives. God is the one constant in our lives, in times of joy and in times of sadness or difficulty.

In this coming week we might find it helpful to offer a thought or a prayer to God, to find peace and comfort in these difficult times.
