Dog and Tudor Country Fair

Bentley Village Green

14th Aug 2021 - 15th Aug 2021

UNTIL Sunday 15th August

The Companye of Merrie Folke ('Horrible Histories', 'Elizabeth I & II', 'The Secret Lives of the Tudors', 'Histories Ultimate Spies' and 'The Reformation') will be setting up their encampment on Bentley Village Green, (IP9 2DW), over the weekend of 14th – 15th August to help raise funds for a young man suffering from a brain tumour.

The Companye will be offering various hands-on activities for visitors, from clay charm making and scribing, to Tudor games and pastimes. For the more adventurous there is also have-a-go Longbow Archery. Little ones may wish to try on Tudor clothes whilst listening to ancient stories, whilst bigger folk may like to try their strength in a Tug of War Battle.

Other activities will include Tudor Surgery (not for the squeamish), participatory Dance, for those wishing to shake a shapely ankle, and a 'Unicorn Race' for the children.

Characters present will include a Cook (why not sample her authentic Tudor food?), an Armourer (see if his armour fits you), a Cunning Man (beware of this fellow and his 'cures') and a Barber Surgeon (if he can't shave or cure bits of you, he will cut them off).

Why not visit Annys our Basket Maker? She will be pleased to show off her baskets and maybe sell you one or two. While with us, come and watch the very popular puppet shows as performed by 'The Fools Puppet Theatre Companie'. These will cause amusement for both young and old.

There will be games for all ages and abilities as well as some modern-day Crafters for that special gift or souvenir. Light refreshments will be on sale and of course hot dogs, burgers ice creams and pizzas will be available too. Our four-legged friends are not forgotten either as there will be a Fun Dog Show each day, kindly organised by The Greyhound Trust Suffolk.

Why not get into the spirit of things and come dressed as a Tudor? There will be prizes for the best dressed who come as a Knight or Princess (they may even get to meet a King or Queen).

Craftspeople attending will include 'A Bit of Glass', 'The Suffolk Hamper Company' and Henry Moore who appeared on TV's 'The Great Pottery Throw Down'.

Entry to the event will be by donation of coin of the Realm. Some activities will require a voluntary donation or a small payment (we have deliberately kept these activities at Òpocket-money levelsÓ). Please bring plenty of small change along with yourselves.

So for a day out with a difference, (and a few surprises) why not come and meet the Tudors, ask them questions about their lives, brush up on your Tudor manners and perhaps try a goblet of spiced wine or two, but beware of the Executioner. You may end up in his stocks or even WORSE.

We look forward to welcoming you.
