News in Shotley Peninsula

A barman who had worked at a number of pubs on the Shotley peninsula today admitted theft from a former employer.

Shane Alan Stocker, of Hossack Road, Ipswich, was fined £472 and ordered to pay compensation of £150, plus £250 towards costs, and £47 victim surcharge after pleading guilty to stealing cash from the Bristol Arms in Shotley Gate.

Rev W Awdry who died on this day in 1997. Wilbert Vere Awdry, was an Anglican cleric, railway enthusiast, and children's author who was the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, the central figure in his Railway Series. Awdry was born at Ampfield vicarage in Hampshire and his father was vicar of Ampfield Church.

Friends and family of a former Shotley community warden have today sent a special thank you message to all that helped install a bench in his memory.

Former soldier Matthew Clarke, who moved to Canada from Shotley, left a deep impression in the village and his former neighbours and friends set up a special appeal after he passed away aged 52, following a battle with brain cancer.

Babergh District Council is a finalist in a national competition to find 'the Council of the Year' – recognising the authorities' innovative service improvements in supporting their communities through Covid and beyond.

The joint entry by Babergh and Mid Suffolk, which are separate sovereign councils with a joint workforce, in the iESE Public Sector Transformation Awards 2021 saw them named this week alongside Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and Wigan Council as finalists for the prestigious Council of the Year title.
