Brantham Athletic are planning to go-ahead with their youth fixtures tomorrow, but accept some parents will not want their children to play.

Daren Smith, Brantham's chief executive, told the club website: "With the current situation being so fluid around the Corona virus and as we await formal direction from the leagues and FA, the club have decided that each parent should decide if they want to hold back their children from participation in games this weekend.

Ipswich Town's game at Bristol Rovers tomorrow and home against Portsmouth next week have been cancelled after the English Football League backtracked on an earlier decision to carry on playing games.

All Premier League games, EFL fixtures and matches in the FA Women's Super League and Women's Championship have been postponed until at least April 3 due to the spread of coronavirus.

Brantham boss Michael Brother hailed on loan Ipswich Town keeper Toby Egan as the Blue Imps beat promotion favourites Wroxham.

Brantham moved level on points with Wroxham, although they have played seven games more, and the Yachtsmen have matches in hand on second placed Norwich United, who are 11 points ahead in the Thurlow Nunn Premier League.

A leading peninsula football coach is broadly in support of a ban on young players heading the ball but has called on the Suffolk FA to set out clear guidelines.

The FA issued a statement stating children of primary school age would be banned from heading a football in training, and youngsters between 12 – 16 would be subjected to a graduated approach, but no specific guidelines have been sent to coaches yet.

Brantham Athletic have signed Ipswich Town goalkeeper Toby Egan on loan until the end of the season.

Under 18s keeper Egan, who has recently been on loan at Haverhill Rovers and has been been Town's Under 23s squad, is set to make his Blue Imps debut at home to Wroxham on Saturday March 7.
