Schools across the Shotley peninsula are today being encouraged to nominate youngsters for the new Suffolk HOPE Awards, which are being launched by Suffolk Constabulary, in partnership with Suffolk County Council.
Launched off the back of National Hate Crime Awareness Week in October last year, the aim of the Hope Awards is to recognise and celebrate the positive contributions that young people make within the county.

Shotley peninsula business owners are being urged to check what financial support might be available through the Covid-19 Business Support Grant schemes and apply before the 31 March deadline.
The Covid-19 business support grants cover different periods of national and local lockdown restrictions from November 2020 until 31 March 2021. The grants can be claimed by both businesses that have been mandated to close as well as those who were able remain open but have been significantly financially affected by lockdown restrictions.

Tributes have been paid to an Arctic Convoy hero and former HMS Ganges instructor who has died following illness and then contracting Covid.
Tom Brosnan, from Shotley Gate, was last year recognised by the Russian Government for his part while serving in the Arctic Convoy's supplying Russian with vital supplies during World War Two.

Just two weeks away from being able to meet friends and family outdoors, Suffolk County Council is encouraging residents to explore more of the beautiful countryside on their doorstep through its Quiet Lanes initiative.
As we move into spring, we are all keen to get outside and make the most of the weather. Quiet Lanes is a nationally recognised designation for narrow, rural roads which can be shared with walkers, horse riders, cyclists and other road users. It encourages drivers to take their time when they see the Quiet Lanes sign, so we can all enjoy rural lanes with greater safety.
We are fortunate to have so many excellent takeaway options on the Shotley peninsula, many of which this Hungry Hack has tried, tasted and enjoyed.
However, we can all succumb to temptation and I almost did last night, but providence intervened and I ended up staying faithful thanks to a, as my son described them, 'Stupid Uber Eats' McFlop.

A casual vacancy has arisen for a parish councillor in Shotley.
Rob Bareham, from Chelmondiston, has resigned with immediate effect from Shotley Parish Council but will remain on the council of his home village.
