Babergh's councillors and officer work to help the community

Babergh District Council is liaising with partners across Suffolk to respond to an increased demand for community support during the COVID-19 crisis.

Babergh will help volunteers, particularly those in the at-risk groups, adhere to guidance from Age UK and Community Action Suffolk - only carrying out volunteering duties if it is safe for them and the public to do so.

Ethan Colwill, a year 11 student who enjoyed his time at the academy and is sad to be leaving.

Holbrook Academy has used a You Tube video to send a heart-felt message to their Year 11 students after parents and pupils on the Shotley peninsula reacted with dismay at the government's decision to scrap all exams this year.

Acting deputy head teacher Phil Hart spoke of his pride of the students, the injustice they are suffering through no fault of their own and vowed they would get a Leaver Prom, in the five-minute video (linked above and full transcript at the bottom of this article).

Pubs are at high risk during this crisis

Businesses on the peninsula are being urged by Babergh council to find out more about the support available to them during the Covid-19 crisis.

Many pubs, and other small and medium sized businesses on the peninsula have been put under enormous financial strain due to advice by the government for people to adopt social distancing due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
