A Canterbury Cathedral chorister gave his own personal tribute to carers and NHS staff by performing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' outside his house in Woolverstone last night.

James Hodgkinson, aged 12, of Main Road in the village, struck a chord with his neighbours, who came out to take part in the weekly #clapforourcarers, while staff from Spring Lodge Care Home, also came out to thank those thanking them.

Sew Scrubs For Ipswich Hospital facebook group prompted action

A small army of sewers, stitchers and crocheters on the peninsula have been doing their bit to support frontline carers and NHS staff.

Inspired by a call for help by Facebook group 'Sew Scrubs For NHS Ipswich Hospital' a group of nimble fingered (mainly) ladies have put together scrubs, headbands for ear protectors, face masks and uniform bags, supported by drivers and coordinators.

Babergh leader John Ward warned of extra expenditure and loss of income

Councils serving the Shotley peninsula face a black hole in their finances once the Covid-19 crisis is over, after a huge drop in income and a significant increase in expenditure during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Local authorities across Suffolk, including Babergh District Council and the county council, have issued a plea to the Government for more cash to tackle the coronavirus crisis, as the public purse has taken a multi-million pound hit in Suffolk in just one month.
