Sunday Thought

Railways and the church have their critics, but both are the best ways of getting man to his ultimate destination.

Rev W Awdry who died on this day in 1997. Wilbert Vere Awdry, was an Anglican cleric, railway enthusiast, and children's author who was the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, the central figure in his Railway Series. Awdry was born at Ampfield vicarage in Hampshire and his father was vicar of Ampfield Church.
