Canny residents at Spring Lodge dodged the bad weather by holding their VE Day party a day early.

Staff served up hand cut sandwiches, pastries and luscious cakes as Union fags fluttered overhead in Friday's afternoon sunshine.

The residents enjoyed reminiscing, and listening to war-time hits to mark the the 76th VE Day of celebration.

Head chef Andy Gray, Kingsley Healthcare's reigning chef of the year, baked a union flag cake for a special afternoon tea.

Meanwhile, Dutch residents Jantje Huggins was presented with a bouquet of Dutch tulips to acknowledge her amazing wartime story.

The 93-year-old experienced the horrors of Nazi occupation and the joy of meeting her future husband among the liberating Army.

Seventy-five years after she married the Royal Artillery despatch rider and left her native Holland for a new life in England, she was content to reflect on her eventful life journey at Spring Lodge care home, and Nub News told her story back in March. (Full story here...)
