A Morning Liturgy for the third Sunday of Easter

Jesus Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

We light the Easter candle.

May God be among us throughout this day

Amen.

May Christ be beside us throughout this day

Amen.

May the Spirit be within us throughout this day

Amen.

May we, as we gather again as God's people, live in harmony with the Blessed Three

to whom be praise and glory forever.

Amen.

HYMN: Word that formed creation

  1. Word that formed creation, earth and sea and sky; Word that brings salvation, Word that will not die; speak now in us that we might hear your call;
Living Word of Jesus, sound within us all.
  1. Love that formed and named us, filled this clay with breath; Love that seeks and claims us, Love beyond all death;
come now and fire the life that flows from you;

Love that raised up Jesus, raise us up anew.

  1. Song of joy and wonder, sound so wild and free; voice of wind and thunder, boundless as the sea; Music of God, the love that casts out fear;

Song that sang in Jesus, sing within us here.

  1. God of all creation, form our hearts anew; God of our salvation, lead us home to you; Spirit, inspire our hearts to hear your call; living God of Jesus, come renew us all!

Let us pray.

Each and every thing we have received

from God it came.

Each and every thing we enjoy

from God it comes.

Each and every thing we pray for

from God it will be given.

God of life,

you are the source of all goodness

and satisfy all our desires.

When our understanding of you is small; increase it, we pray.

When our desire to do your will is weak;

enliven it, we pray.

When the seed you have planted has yet to bear fruit;

ripen it, we pray.

But first, create in us clean hearts as, in your sight,

we unburden ourselves of guilt,

of anger and of fear,

of pride and of hardness of heart, of weakness of intention.

A short silence is kept.

Lord of all

have mercy upon us.

Jesus Christ, Saviour of the world

make peace within us.

Lord of heaven and earth

forgive us our sins,

be with us and for us, wherever life takes us.

In the common path of our calling

whether it be easy or uneasy to tread,

whether it be bright or dark to follow,

we pray, may your perfect guidance protect us.

Be a shield against all that might deceive us, Be a healer for all that might harm us,

be a witness of all that might trouble us

be a friend to all who are dear to us,

this day and until we meet in glory. Amen.

Readings

Our first reading is from the book of Acts (3.12-19)

Messiah would suffer. Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out.

In this is the Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

Our second reading is from Luke's gospel (24:36b-48)

While they were talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, "Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet.

While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence. Then he said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled." Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.

When Peter saw it, he addressed the people, 'You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. 'And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his

Thanks be to God.

The address is followed by a time of reflection with music playing. 4.

Address and Reflection

Risen Christ,

you filled your disciples with boldness and fresh hope: strengthen us to proclaim your risen life

and fill us with your peace,

to the glory of God the Father.

Amen.

Collect

HYMN: Sing of the Lord's goodness
  1. Sing of the Lord's goodness, Father of all wisdom,
come to him and bless his name. Mercy he has shown us,

his love is for ever,

faithful to the end of days.

Refrain: Come then all you nations, sing of your Lord's goodness,

melodies of praise and thanks to God. Ring out the Lord's glory,

praise him with your music,

worship him and bless his name.

The following response may be used

Lord, in your mercy

hear our prayer.

And at the end

Merciful Father,

accept these prayers

for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

As our Saviour taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done,

on earth as in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins

as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are yours,

now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer
  1. Power he has wielded, honour is his garment,
risen from the snares of death. His word he has spoken,

one bread he has broken, new life he now gives to all.

  1. Courage in our darkness, comfort in our sorrow,

Spirit of our God most high; solace for the weary, pardon for the sinner, splendour of the living God.

  1. Praise him with your singing,

praise him with the trumpet,

praise God with the lute and harp; praise him with the cymbals,

praise him with your dancing,

praise God till the end of days. Refrain

Jesus Christ is risen.

He is risen indeed. Alleluia!

May God give you

his comfort and his peace,

his light and his joy,

in this world and the next;

and the blessing of God almighty,

the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,

be among you and remain with you always. Amen.

The Easter Candle is extinguished.
