The Swan at Holbrook is set to change hands for the second time in two years.

Brewers Calvors, that currently own the 150-year-old pub closed its doors on the Friday at the beginning of lockdown in March and had been put it on the market for £265,000.

A sale has now been agreed and it is anticipated the deal will be completed by early to mid-August with the Swan reopening by September. The identity of the new owners has not yet been revealed but it is understood they have local connections.

Calvors bought the Swan in 2018 after it had been on the market for £180k and reopened after a complete refurbishment. Alec Williamson told Nub News in March how Calvors was looking to sell the Swan and the 16th century Rampant Horse in Needham Market was also put on the market at £375k last month, as the company was looking to focus on its sales to the retail trade, especially its canned beers.

The Swan has been a pub in Holbrook since 1874 and had its own steel quoits team, that has enjoyed international success for decades.

Holbrook parish council ensured the building would continue to be used as a pub and it was listed as an Asset of Community Value, which meant parishioners would have had the opportunity to buy it rather than see it being developed into houses.
