Sacking Lambert May Soothe Some Pain But The Underlying Problem Will Remain

Here we go again.

Another below par display from and another under-performing side, under another disappointing manager that promised so much but has not delivered where it matters - winning football matches.

For all his praise of Ipswich Town fans, the refusal to lambast his players and the outward appearance of getting on great with the owner Marcus, Lambert has failed to fulfil his promise.

Even before Ched Evans, and to rub slat in Town's wound he is an ex-Norwich player, the Blues' showing was less than convincing. The team sheet did not inspire confidence, questions asked about why Lambert had left out this player, included that players - the names are as irrelevant as the possible excuses - three games in a week, injuries, suspensions, blah blah.

Despite the fact that the underlying problems may not be Lambert's fault, per se, many supporters, at the ground or catching up on their mobile devices, have had enough. Had enough of false dawns, inaction, lack of proper investment, you know the sort that could have, should have been made in January to foster the squad, and not allow the manager wriggle room to continue to not deliver.

Sacking Lambert may well provide a short term boost, perhaps enough to string enough results together to make the play-offs, with Neil Warnock reportedly waiting in the wings waiting to do what he does best - firefight and win promotions.

And before those sorts of decisions are made, you have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes, perhaps there is a personal issue Lambert is not telling us about, perhaps for good reason, and we have to wonder why Evans was so keen to give him an extension to his contact, even with get out clauses.

Ultimately though if Lambert is shown the door, the main problem will not be gone, unless of course Evans does what he probably should have done years ago, sell up and do what he does best, just disappear.
